God Save McQueenBy: Rachel Wagschal
Don’t know what to be for Halloween this year, what to wear to that party this weekend, or what beautiful, wearable art looks like? I know of a guy who can answer all of your questions. Lee Alexander McQueen—may he rest in peace—was one of the greatest masterminds in fashion to ever live. McQueen’s work is a showcase of beautiful contradictions—from delicate clutches embellished with skulls to a wedding dress modeled after McQueen’s harsh view of Scotland. In 2001, McQueen put on one of his most memorable spring/summer shows, VOSS. At the center of the room stood a mirrored box, which spontaneously lit up from the inside with moths, revealing an unclothed model wearing a gas mask. What this symbolized, one can only imagine. McQueen passed in February of 2010at the far too early age of 40, but his legacy will live on forever. Lee Alexander McQueen has left the world of fashion with a series of the greatest creations that fashion will ever come to hold. So, whether it be a graffiti covered football uniform, a medieval inspired frock, or a deep sea goddess, McQueen’s creations will always be a source of inspiration. |
