Feature Surfer: Joshua Sherwell
By: Sophie Shambrook
Joshua Sherwell is a 19 year old surfer, working his way up to surf in The ASP World Tour. Josh has lived his whole life on the Sunshine Coast (the East Coast) of Australia, one day hoping to move to California to fulfill his dreams. He started surfing and rode his first wave at six years old! "My whole family surfs, but the reason I chose to do it professionally was because my father, Robbie, used to be on the world tour. He's 48 this year and still surfs better than most guys my age!" His favorite part about surfing is that every wave is different and he loves paddling out and "being idiots" with his friends in the water! Josh's favorite spot to surf is Mooloolaba-his home break, but it's only good in cyclone season. "When it gets over 5 ft., there are some solid barrels to be had." All of his boards are shaped by Darren Handley (DHD). He has a 6'1 and a 6'0. His 6'1 is an all-round hi-performance board and the 6'0 is his small-wave-fun-board. When he's not surfing, Josh loves playing basketball and competes on the ASP junior men's tour and the WQS. He also helps run a blog with his best friend Jeremy, called "Diamond Offcuts". "I treat others how I wish to be treated because life's too short to hold grudges." -Joshua Sherwell |
