I had extremely high expectations as I arrived to Kairos, the self-proclaimed "fresh new label, local music festival, and art show" of Orange County put on by a group of locals including Max McConnell, Austenn Akers, Skylar Chaput, and Keet Veylupek. When I walked up to the venue, located outside the Crossing Church in Costa Mesa I was, to say the least, very impressed. As promised, I was greeted by an assembly of artists and friends alike, working together to produce and inspire artistic and musical talent. As I enjoyed the company of my friends and fellow artists, I watched the live music provided throughout the night from local, up-and-coming musicians signed to the new Kairos label like One's Flight, Sunset Pilgrims, Nix, Jacob Forster, and Nina Lodico.

To compliment the rad musicians, teenage artists displayed their work, varying from oil paintings, spray-painted portraits, raw photographs, and lively watercolor. Featured in the courtyard were Conor Luckey, Hayden Navarro, Rachel Gehrke, Alex Swanson, Michael Prichard, Keet Veylupek, Billy Williams, and Dottie Rhoden. Many of which are still in high school and manage to maintain and grow ample artistic talent.
Kairos unquestionably lived up to its purpose of highlighting the excessive amount of talent among Orange County’s young people. This event seeks to promote a communal hub of artistry as founder, Max McConnell so states, “Kairos is by artists and for the artists”. The festival seeks to serve as an outlet for local artists and onlookers alike, strengthening the community through the arts and delicious coffee! |
Kairos' attraction and genius lies in that it promotes authenticity and artistry in the sometimes unsubstantial culture of Orange County. The event's friendly atmosphere, tasty coffee, and genuine talent attracts young people of all sorts, thus unifying our generation through the arts.
As Art Director, Keet Veylupek from Huntington Beach High School states, "My experience with Kairos has been really positive and has acted as a stage for my creativity in multiple ways. [...] Essentially Kairos is a community of young, creative people that are coming together to show off and support other creative people. For our community, Kairos has been and will continue to be a positive avenue for individuals to express themselves and come together in the common love for music, art, and good company."

If Kairos continues to impress people and to grow at this rate, I can promise you that it will be the next big thing in Orange County's musical and artistic community. Do not miss out on the next event, be sure to "Like" their Facebook page to stay in the loop regarding new artists and their upcoming Kairos events this Summer.
"Kairos is an assembly of artists established under one flag and one vision that centralizes upon elements of live promotion, records and production to create a haven for songwriters and musicians to develop and flourish in an increasingly competitive industry environment.
Focusing on Orange County's excessive amount of talent with a lack of avenues to express themselves, Kairos looks to fill in that gap. Founded by a group of visionaries and starving artists looking to serve a more grand purpose, Nov. 2012 a glorious dream was born and later on Jan. 2013 the dream became a tangible reality beyond all expectations. The Kairos team is working towards serving the local artists within Orange County with the ambitions of igniting an artistic revolution. " -KAIROS |
