Do It Yourself: Glitter Nail PolishBy: Suhaa Dada
When I think of the holidays, my mind subconsciously conjures colors of rich crimsons, dazzling silvers, and florescent greens. This year, I've found the perfect way to incorporate a rich, seasonal color of your choosing into a delightful homemade holiday present, or even just a DIY project to pass the time on a gloomy day. Creating a glitter nail polish requires little effort and inexpensive supplies you can find at your local arts supply store or drug store. I went to Michael's and bought a "Glitter Sample Pack" (seen in photo 1) which only cost $1.99. I then went to CVS and bought "Sally Hansen Hard as Nails” in 100 Invisible for $3.99. If you're running low on money, this is perfect to give a friend during the Holiday Season! Supplies: A bottle of clear nail polish (make sure its not quick dry to avoid stickiness) A couple of different types of glitter in the color of your choice (doesn’t have to be the kind from Michaels if you want different colors) A post it note *Optional – pigment powder Steps 1: Roll the post it up into a cone shape, with a hole at one end big enough to fit into the opening of the nail polish bottle. (Photo 3) 2: Pour 1/4 tsp of your chunky glitter and 1/8 tsp of each of the fine glitter through the post it funnel. If you want to add more color, feel free to get pigment powder and add a sprinkle in. 3: Close the bottle and give it a little shake and... Voila! As easy as that, you have created your very own Deborah Lippmann without spending anywhere from $18-$40! This DIY looks great straight on nails or even as a top coat! If it's a gift, add a note with some ribbon or a creative label to give it a personalized feel. |
