SATELLITE STORIES: TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB HAS MET THEIR FINNISH RIVALS
BY GRIFFIN SHARP // PUBLISHED 5.8.13
When it comes to bands that Finland has produced, how many can you name? Probably none, but you can now add Satellite Stories to your extensive list.
Singing is said to be the "universal accent," but this crew breaks that law, which is one of the things I find myself having this band on replay for. They tend to start off their songs with a bang; a neat guitar riff or some harmonious chant that the whole band contributes to, basically just something to get the crowd going. |
With a super catchy and bouncy style and a chorus made seemingly to sing along to, these guys make up a band that I don't feel weird rocking out to by myself with headphones on full volume. Easily comparable to the Irish band, "Two Door Cinema Club" (I actually confused the two at first listen), foreign "indie pop" seems to be on the rise, but with little support in the States. Yet Satellite Stories' last single "Kid's Aren't Safe in the Metro" has sat in the German Top Charts for 10 weeks now, hitting No. 2 not long ago. They also very recently debuted their new single, "Scandinavian Girls", |
which didn't disappoint me whatsoever and ranks up there with my other favorites, "Family" and "Helsinki Art Scene" from their newest album "Phrases to Break the Ice." I hope to see these guys in the U.S. soon, and it appears they have plans to do so according to their Facebook page. Where undoubtedly Angry Birds is the best thing to come out of Finland, i'd say it is safe to say that Satellite Stories is a very close second. |
