STYLE STEREOTYPING
Written and Photographed By: Rachel Wagschal Hanna is what I would categorize as a lover of “the new old.” With a like for nostalgic styles from much before her time, Hanna takes liking to reinvention styles ranging from the sixties all the way to the nineties. This admiration for the origin of rock and alternative shows not only in Hanna’s musical taste—Hanna dubs Sea Wolf as “the new David Bowie”—but also in her sense of dress, as she is seen flaunting a Grateful Dead jumper. It is nearly impossible to describe this girl’s style in words. From the music on her phone to the Hush Puppies on her feet, you can find a mix of modern and traditional Swedish, American, Italian, and Spanish styles weaved into Elin’s wardrobe and her playlist. Elin claims she “is like other teens in that [she likes] the pop and alternative genres,” shown through her love for bands such as The Lumineers and Of Monsters and Men. Throw some Sweden in some Lykke Li, Swedish House Mafia, Peter Bjorn and John and some sweet leopard-print apparel and you’ve got yourself an Elin Wolker. Somer’s music taste, like her style of clothing, is constantly changing. With a loose musical preference, Somer dabbles in musical idols from Florence to Lana, looking to her music as inspiration for her daily outfitting. Somer’s belief that “music is what influences people on the way they act and dress,” shines through in her “sometimes preppy, sometimes dark and edgy,” style of dress.
