Whether you’re spending the summer at home soaking up the California sun, or traveling around the world, here is the perfect music playlist to keep you relaxed and keep the good Summer vibes coming your way. -Sophia Forino
1. It Is Not Meant to Be by Tame Impala Described as “psychedelic hypno-groove melodic rock” this Australian band has continuously provided listeners with relaxed yet intriguing tunes.

London Grammar) This English, electronic duo has bestowed upon us the most relaxing song that you can dance your heart out to. 8. Insane by Flume (feat. Moon Holiday) Amazing.. Period. 9. Step by Vampire Weekend Off of their brand new album, Modern Vampires of the City, this awesome song allows the you to unwind after a long day at the beach. |
10. Resolution by Matt Corby Just by the appearance of this handsome Aussie surfer, you know this song is bound to be special. With his soulful and bluesy vocals, and incredible musical talent, this is just an all around feel-good song.
11. Two Fingers by Jake Bugg Sung by a 19 year old singer and guitarist, this brit has given us an upbeat song that makes listeners feel edgy and cool. 12. Los Banditos by Hindu Pirates Out of Huntington Beach, California, this band that consists of young guys that easily portray the Californian lifestyle through their music. This song in particular is beachy and buoyant, while having a good story to follow |
13. Your Protector by Fleet Foxes
Although this band is from the not-so-sunny Seattle, Washington, this song, full of flutes and percussion, has a great beat to dance to. 14. Heart It Races by Dr. Dog In this cover of Heart It Races, Dr. Dog has completely transformed this song into a beachy and light tune. It is absolutely perfect. 15. Truth by Alexander Sung by the singer of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros this song, although simple, sounds intricate in the best ways possible. 16. Only Love by Ben Howard Not only is Ben Howard attractive and British, but he’s also a sponsored surfer and a master of guitar playing. This song perfectly portrays his guitar and vocal talent, with sweet lyrics that can make anyone swoon. |
17. Naked Kids by The Growlers
Originating in Dana Point, California the Growlers embody what I believe is Southern Californian music. Brooks Nielsen’s intriguing voice and the band’s lo-fi style is perfect for any time of the year. This band is completely underrated and deserves way more credit than given.
18. Lisa Baby by WALK THE MOON
You may already know the song Anna Sun, by the same band, because it was the summer anthem last year. This song is off the same album, and is just as powerful as well as the rest of the album.

19. Every Little Thing by Young the Giant
Once again this band is well known for songs like My Body and Cough Syrup, but the rest of the album is underrated. This is actually a bonus song off their album, and in my opinion, the best one. Sameer Gadhia’s angelic voice is really brought out in these fantastic 4 minutes and 3 seconds. 20. Dosed by Red Hot Chili Peppers We obviously all know Red Hot Chili Peppers and their genius music but this song is often overlooked., Dosed contains harmonies and an overall feel that’s unlike any of their other songs. Perfect for summer. |
21. Hand-Made by Alt-J
This extremely calming song accompanied by calming vocals leaves the listener..you guessed it..calm. Perfect for listening to while sipping some tea at Alta on a late night.
22. Single Fins & Safety Pins by Japanese Motors
This song is the actual epitome of summertime in California. The lyrics are all about Southern California beach life, the band’s sound and wave/seagull accompaniment is just the cherry on top. Give it a listen and you’ll understand.
23. Ça plane pour moi by Plastic Bertrand
Although this song is extremely unexpected being that is was released in 1977 and is in French, I couldn’t think of a better song to dance to on a summer night. It’s tempo is as non-stop as the lyrics, and it’s impossible for a person to listen to it without smiling.

24. Wolf Like Me by TV On The Radio
You might have seen this band at the US Open last year which goes to show that they’re music is perfect for summer. This song surprisingly isn’t beachy but it’s fast paced and has a great beat while sticking to the rock genre. 25. Feel It All Around by Washed Out People may know this song as the intro for the show Portlandia and it is in fact what lead me to this song. Turns out, it’s chill sound and languorous vocals are best heard blasted in your car on the way to 28th street. |
